Hemorrhoid Secrets

Hemorrhoids are similar to varicose veins but they’re actually not the same. They only occur in the anal region when the anal veins become enlarged and dilated. The veins located in the anal region are quite flexible and very stretchable. It is because the bowel expands and contracts and the anal veins adjust to it.

Amazingly, there are no other veins that can stretch as much as they do. Thus, when they are pressurized with blood, they become really huge in size. Hemorrhoids occur when this happens and when they cannot return back to their original size.

When the affected area is located outside or near the anus, then it is called an external hemorrhoid. Some of the symptoms of these are hard lumps surrounding the anus which can be felt when touched. Their color is often brownish. These types of hemorrhoids do not show through the opening of the anus but is located in the rim, just outside it.

On the other hand, when the area affected is located inside the anus, it is then called an internal hemorrhoid. A common symptom of this is bleeding.

When an internal hemorrhoid protrudes outside the anus, it then becomes a prolapsed one. It is usually reddish in color and can be pushed back inside the anus. Another type is the thrombosed hemorrhoids. These have blood clots in them and can be extremely painful. The most obvious symptom to know if you have hemorrhoids is when you can see or feel them. It’s size can be as big as a walnut or bigger than a grape or normally, it’s as the same size as a pea.
