Hemorrhoids are those scratchy, bleeding, and painful bumps found at the anal area. Although hemorrhoids happen to everybody, only 4% of it experience severe pain and itching. But these little monsters can actually be controlled, or even get rid of.

Here are some ways on how to get rid of hemorrhoids.

Avoid Straining yourself. When you are in the bathroom and you are having a hard potty time, try not to strain too much. The more you push hard through your anal canal, the greater your chances are of having hemorrhoids. When you are on the “throne”, try to relax. Just let nature take its course.

Increase your fibre intake. Since fibre can make your stool looser, why not go the extra mile and increase fibre in your diet. When your stool is loose, you wont put much pressure when removing your bowel, thus you can avoid straining your anus.

Use Vasoconstrictors. This is the type of cure most doctors prescribed in reducing the pain and the inflammation brought about by your hemorrhoids. Some of the most common ones that can really relieve itch include Rectacaine and preparation H.

Local Anaesthetics. Although these are not treatments to fully eliminate hemorrhoids, doctors still prescribe such anaesthetics to help ease the swelling and the pain. Examples of these include medicone, lanacane, and americaine.

There are various ways on how to get rid of hemorrhoids. From topical treatments to local anaesthetics, the options are endless. Discuss this concern with your doctor so you will fully understand what treatment is right for you.

White, Wheat or Multigrain???

Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 30th, 2009

Flour is undoubtedly one of the most important foods in our diet, not because it’s nutritious but because we eat it out of habit and eliminating it from our diet is nearly impossible.

Throughout my career as a Nutrition Consultant I have come to realize that people simply aren’t going to cut bread, cookies and crackers out of their diet no matter how badly they want to loose weight or control their blood sugar. Because of this I’ve decided to write about flour so as to clear up a few important points.

First of all, most flour products such as bread are normally made from wheat flour and there are two types:

Whole wheat flour, which tends to be darker in color and is the healthier of the two, and white or bleached flour. White flour is now called Enriched Wheat Flour and is the exact opposite of what the name indicates! In fact it is the biggest rip off yet.

What is enriched flour? Its wheat that has been so processed it no longer has any nutritional value. Wheat happens to be a very healthy grain as it has around thirty different nutrients including Iron and Fiber, which is there to help you digest the wheat so it doesn’t stick to the walls of your intestine.

When wheat is ground up and processed to make Enriched Flour, they take out over half of the nutrients and the fiber so the bread will be soft and white and they add sugar!

This is why every day, more and more people are opting to buy whole wheat bread instead. Unfortunately, most large bread manufacturers don’t want to work double so instead of preparing Enriched Flour on one machine and whole wheat flour on the other, what they do is add artificial fiber and “Caramel” coloring to the Enriched Flour then sell it to you as whole wheat bread. This imitation bread is the same or worse than white bread yet they sell it at a higher cost because “it’s healthier”.

And this is why you should learn to read food labels. Don’t get ripped off any longer! Real wheat bread will have as its first ingredient Whole Wheat Flour. Also, you won’t see listed in the ingredients sugar or “Caramel” color as whole wheat tends to be sweet on its own and is already dark. And by looking at the nutritional panel you will see that compared to other breads it is much higher in Iron and Fiber, and lower in carbs.

There is a third type of bread which is superior to both white and wheat breads and that is Multigrain. This bread, so long as it is real Multigrain and not another knock off is very recommendable for people trying to lose weight or diabetics because it is lower in carbs and contains several different types of grains and oats.

So next time you go to the grocery store: buy bread instead of lies!

Piles Cure - How to Cure Hemorrhoids

Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 30th, 2009

Hemorrhoids are conditions that cause pains in the rectal area. Almost everyone can suffer from this kind of disorder at some point of their lives. Hemorrhoids are present in all of us. Hemorrhoids are defined as the cushions of tissues that are located in the area between the rectum and the anus. These cushions are all filled with blood vessels.

When these blood vessels are constrained that causes it to swell and be inflamed, this is the time wherein the hemorrhoids can be caused by a number of possible reasons. Hemorrhoids are also termed as piles. The different numbers of reasons are can also be treated accordingly. A qualified medical practitioner can determine what the right kind of piles cure to use for such conditions.

The individual suffering from piles needs to seek immediate medical treatment to be able to be diagnosed with accordingly. Hemorrhoids are the strains that are caused to the veins in the pelvic and rectal areas due to the exertion of pressure in these areas. Some of the conditions for the cause of the enlargement of the hemorrhoid include constipation, diarrhea, pregnancy, tumors in the pelvic area and at times being overweight is also a factor to consider. Hemorrhoids can also come with age. Older people tend to be also affected with this condition.

The pressure that is exerted by the muscles near the anal canal when trying to push out the stool from the anal canal can cause hemorrhoids. When an individual comes to an elderly stage, the muscles that support and anchor the hemorrhoids also deteriorate making them more prone to the enlargement of the hemorrhoids or piles.

There are two kinds of hemorrhoids. There are the internal hemorrhoids and then there are external hemorrhoids.

Both these conditions involve the enlargement and the swelling of veins in the anal canal but there are also some of the characteristics and symptoms where these two conditions differ. Internal hemorrhoids do not have obvious symptoms but there are swelling veins inside the anal canal that cannot be felt because there are no pain receptors in our anal canal that receives pain. But there is however streaks of blood seen on toilet papers and on the toilet bowls. Internal hemorrhoids become painful when it bulges out of the anus.

External hemorrhoids is the condition where hemorrhoids occur outside the anal canal. These are hardened lumps that have been formed due to bleeding of the hemorrhoids. External hemorrhoids are painful and can cause itchiness and irritation in the rectal area. You must seek for medical advice so that you can then be diagnosed and given piles cure to treat the condition.

The pile cure for worse cases is surgery which requires the removal of the hemorrhoid out of the body.

Hemorrhoids are caused when the sacs of varicose veins and tissues that are found in the rectal areas are inflamed. Everyone including you and me have these tissue sacs that are located in our rectal area that assists in pushing out our solid wastes out of the body. Sometimes though, straining is unavoidable and could result in the inflammation of the tissue sacs that could cause it to swell and could severely cause some pain.

This condition is now causing hemorrhoid problems. Hemorrhoids can cause agonizing pains and when you experience hemorrhoids pain, do not hesitate for the pain to become severe. Hemorrhoids are treatable.

Other ways that result to hemorrhoids aside from straining are constipation and prolonged sitting in one position. Unhealthy diets also contribute to the hemorrhoids. However, there are times when an individual with a healthy diet acquires hemorrhoids while some individuals that do not have a healthy diet do not acquire hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are conditions that are not life threatening but there are however times where surgery is required to treat and remove hemorrhoids.

If individual suffering from hemorrhoids are asked about what they hate most about this condition, they will all say that the hemorrhoids pain is unbearable. It is unbearable that you may no longer do productive work the simple act of just sitting down is now a very difficult thing to do and during trips to the comfort room, defecating is a very hard thing to do. In addition to the three times a day, you can also take Seitz baths after every bowel movement. This prevents the infection and will help in easing hemorrhoid pain.

You can also apply creams and ointments that are readily available in pharmacies and can be purchased over the counter. Hemorrhoid pains are extremely painful when combined with the intense itchiness that comes with it. These creams and ointments can help in treating the itching because these creams and ointments contain anti itch properties.

Cold compress are sometimes used. Ice is one of the treatments for swelling and pain. The ice numbs the area which relieves hemorrhoid pain.

There are several methods for hemorrhoid relief and it is important to be able to know what these several methods are. But what is more important is to know what causes hemorrhoids in the first place and how to treat it properly.

There are self-help methods that can provide hemorrhoid relief that can be done but will not make the condition go away completely. But it does not hurt to try these methods to relive the pain and itching when the pain caused by hemorrhoids will become unbearable.

There are several health products that are available in the market today that can be used to treat hemorrhoids. These products come in different forms like creams, gels, ointments, distilled liquids, pads and suppositories. All of these methods are intended for external use only. Creams, ointments and gels are used to create a thin covering around the rectal area. Suppositories are inserted using the finger into the anal canal. When you are using suppositories, grease it first with ointment before inserting them.

These products contain ingredients that provide hemorrhoid relief. If you are experiencing some inflammation and burning sensations caused about by hemorrhoids, you can try these simple methods that also provide hemorrhoid relief.

You should drink at least 8 glasses a day. It is also recommended to take in foods that are rich in fiber. The fiber intake should be adjusted so as to be balanced with your water intake.

Then see to it that the affected area must be dry after bathing to prevent irritation. You can also opt to buy Epsom salts and put them on the bath tub. Sit on the bath tub for about fifteen minutes or even longer if you think it is necessary.

You can also apply cold compress on the affected area to be able to ease the swelling and be sure to use ice that does not stick to the skin.

After bowel movements, do not use dry toilet papers to wipe the anal area. Instead, use wet wipes or moist towels when wiping your butt. Do not use wet wipes that are scented or has alcohol in it.

If the hemorrhoid is prolapsed or is coming out of the anus, gently push it back inside so that the pain will be relived.

When sitting down on regular chairs bring pain to you, you have to get yourself one of those hemorrhoid cushions to have hemorrhoid relief from the pains caused by the hemorrhoids. This minimizes the pressure between the chair and the hemorrhoid.

These are temporary hemorrhoid reliefs and it is still best to seek for professional medical attention.

Hold as long as you are able and repeat on the other side. You will feel the stretch through your neck, shoulders and upper torso mainly, thighs lower back are also affected, its wonderful pose, honestly.

Swastika 3. A little different to Swastika 2. This time lay on your left side with your body inline. Bring your left leg up along the floor with your knee at 90 degrees at hip level. Your right leg remains straight.

Support yourself on your hands and begin to lower your front to the floor, as before bring your right arm up along the floor with your elbow at 90 degrees and at shoulder level. Bring your left arm up to shoulder level with 90 degrees at the elbow and your hand pointing down with palm up.

Start by keeping your forehead on the floor and when you are ready turn your head to the left with the aim of bringing the side of your face to the floor. Again vary the pose as you see fit. This is a much stronger pose so take care, stay in it as long as is comfortable then repeat on the other side.

Monitor how you are doing and the effort how to get there, one side may a little different to the other particularly with neck and shoulder issues.

The beauty of this pose that your whole body is getting worked at some level, avoid being in a hurry to complete the pose as you could create tension in the body and tension is a killer. So be gentle with yourself. Improvise wherever you can to make it more comfortable for you. Remember you are working towards healing your body with gentle yoga postures and keep an open mind.

With regard to ankle sprains. Ankles represent the ability to receive pleasure. Sprained ankles are a result of Inflexibility and guilt; these are the probable causes, the negative side. The positive side is “I deserve to rejoice in life. I accept all the pleasure life has to offer”.

Food for thought, as I said keep an open mind. I hope you find this useful, until the next time.

Plantar Fasciitis [pronounced PLAN-tar Fashee-EYE-tiss] does not have to put a stop to an active lifestyle. Treating plantar fasciitis starts at home and there are a lot of excellent treatments that do not require a big investment. Because many of the best treatments can be done at home, it is always good practice to try out these treatments before spending money on doctors bills.

Plantar fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is flexible, flat ligament connecting the heel bone to the toes. This inflammation is caused when this ligament develops small tears from irregular stretching. This pain is often felt first thing in the mornings as a result of your foot muscles not being stretched and also has a tendency to be painful after standing, walking, running or jumping for an extended period of time. The pain is best described as a dull ache through to a sharp pain when flexing the toes.

This injury is aggravated by walking and running on hard surfaces. It is particularly prominent with runners who train on hills where they are required to run on the balls of their feet, or by athletes who are constantly operating on the balls of their feet. If you have plantar fasciitis, you are most likely to feel pain on your heel and particularly on the inside of the heel.

Testing for plantar fasciitis is done by pressing down on the middle of the heel with your thumb pointed upwards towards the top of the foot. The difference with heel spurs is that the pain is felt on the front of the heel, much nearer the arch.

The people are are most susceptible to plantar fasciitis are those that have low arches or high arches. That is because with low arches there isn’t enough shock absorption while with high arches the fascia tendon is too tight. Although the fascia is made up of large amount of connective tissue called collagen fibres, it is relatively easy for a person to injure this tissue enough for an inflammation to take hold. In the US alone, there are approximately one million cases of plantar fasciitis every year.

Plantar Fasciitis generally develops over a period of time and for some the pain is only evident when they get out of bed in the morning or after they have been sitting for a while. If this is the only symptom that you are presently feeling, then you would be well advised to just take a little time to relax your feet. Stop any activity that can aggravate the situation, such as standing for long period of time, walking, running or jumping. If the inflammation is not dealt with, it will most likely get worse and require more attention.

For more extreme cases of Plantar Fasciitis the following treatments are very effective:-

1. Doing regular stretching exercises will facilitate your ability to walk, but too much manipulation is not good for the inflammation.

2. Ice packs are an excellent way to reduce the inflammation - ice packing for ten minutes a few times a day will help.

3. Taking anti inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen that deal with the inflammation as well as the pain are best. Beware of anti inflammatory drugs that contain steroids.

4. Do not walk on hard surfaces with bare feet and make sure that your shoes are of the best possible quality, especially when spending extensive periods of time in them.

5. Night Splints are a consideration if you are feeling a lot of pain first thing in the morning.

These treatments are easy to follow and will not set you back financially. There are a multitude of excellent treatments that cater for all levels of inflammation and are often what the doctor will prescribe should you pay him a visit. However, if none of these treatments achieve any success, then it may be time to call in the specialists. Plantar Fasciitis is painful, but it does not have to control your life. With the right information you will find relief.

Pain and the management of pain are topics that are, increasingly, garnering more interest and more attention, both by the general population and by researchers. This is simply due to the fact that medical science has now advanced to the point where it may be possible to find answers to questions regarding pain that, till now, have eluded us.

Pain. Is it all in your head? Back pain does not always have an apparent physical cause, and findings from researchers at the University of Michigan suggest the brain may be to blame. The study sample included 15 patients with lower back pain that had no physical reason such as disc or muscle problems, 15 fibromyalgia patients and 15 healthy people with no back pain. The researchers looked at brain scans while applying pressure as rapid pulsing to the base of the left thumbnail.

Like patients with mysterious back pain, fibromyalgia patients experience pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons that can not be attributed to a specific physical problem. Research on the condition shows that abnormalities in the central nervous system may be the cause. It is thought that these abnormalities affect regions in the brain and cause or contribute to the pain symptoms.

In all patients with FMS, the brain scans showed increased brain activity in certain areas, but the stimulation patterns were different for each group. Those with fibromyalgia and lower back pain experienced pain feeling when just mild pressure was applied, while healthy patients felt little effect. The researchers believe that the study provides a kind of map that shows which brain regions show the most and the least activity in response to pain.

The findings suggest that those patients with lower back pain experience an enhanced pain response in certain areas of the brain and a diminished pain response in others. It appears that these patients are simply more sensitive to pain from a pathologic process that differs from healthy patients.

Critics of the study, such as Dr Jan van der Merwe, St Thomas’s Hospital (London) head of Input Pain Management, point out that many factors contribute to increases in neural brain activity and that there is no way to tell whether the patients had increased brain activity due to pain sensitivity or from other stimuli, such as thinking about something else. While the study findings suggest that those with fibromyalgia and lower back pain experience a neurobiological amplification of pain signals that other groups do not experience, more research is needed to further demonstrate the evidence of this and determine why the heightened response occurs.

What is Athlete’s Foot?

Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 28th, 2009

Athlete’s foot is annoying and itchy, but most of us don’t know much more about it than the fact that it’s a fungus and that athlete’s get it. What should you know about athlete’s foot?

First, the fungus that causes athlete’s foot is a form of ringworm. It flourishes in moist, warm environments, and infects the upper layer of the skin - any skin, not just the feet. The assumption that athlete’s foot only happens in athlete’s feet is erroneous, as ringworm can cause infection anywhere, from scalp to toenail. (Just take a moment and imagine athlete’s scalp. Awesome, isn’t it?)

Athlete’s foot, or tinea pedis (essentially, foot ringworm) most often affects the webbing between toes, causing itchy scaling, as well as sometimes thickening on the soles of the feet or causing blisters. Most cases of athlete’s foot will include peeling skin, and in the most severe cases, the skin my crack or bleed.

Athlete’s foot one of the most common forms of the ringworm fungus. It’s also one of the hardest to get rid of, and it spreads easily. Swimming pools, locker rooms, and nail salons can often harbor tinea pedis colonies that are transferred easily, either from the surfaces of infected areas, or from person to person (or sock to person.)

People who have athlete’s foot should check other common areas, especially the hands or groin, as the infection often spreads to other areas of the body. The most effective treatments treat all infected areas at once to avoid reinfecting treated areas.
Although athlete’s foot can be extremely contagious, not everyone is equally susceptible to the infection. Some people can share showers for years without ever passing the infection to each other, while other people can easily pick it up from walking through a locker room.

The best treatments include using powders to dry up the moisture allowing the infection to flourish, followed by anti-fungal creams or sprays like Lamisil AF Athlete. Add to this frequent washing of sheets and socks in hot water to keep your feet from being reinfected.

Acid reflux disease is a very painful and agonizing disease; and it is found to be pretty much common amongst us. However, the positive thing is that there are more than one therapy available as the cure of the acid reflux disease.

It doesn’t even matter if you have been suffering from this disease for a long time; there is always a high chance of recovering form this disease by resorting to various methods.

For those people who do not have this disease at a very serious and critical condition, antacids are the best form of cure. This might be enough for you if you do not have to face acid reflux on a regular basis or in case it has not yet been that painful for you. It neutralizes the HCL acid that is present in the digestive system and causing you trouble.

If that does not work, then you might need to switch over to some medications. In that case you should consult your doctor who would prescribe the medications that are suitable for your condition. These medicines also do nothing more than neutralizing the acid in your stomach, though in a more effective way.

However, in case none of these things seem to help you, then you may also opt to go for the acid reflux disease surgery. But that should always be the last option.

Opting for Acid Reflux Disease Surgery

So, if a person suffering from gastric acid reflux disease opts to go for its surgery, he or she should once again confirm that he has tried every other method. However, there is nothing to be worried about if you’re about to be operated, as this form of cure is the most effective one, as well. You will definitely feel better after undergoing this treatment.

But before you go for the surgery, you should have a thorough conversation with your doctor. He will carefully measure your condition, diagnose the level of your disease and then tell you about the pros and cons of this therapy.

Pros and Cons of the Gastro-Acid Reflux Disease Surgery

As with every other form of surgery, there are a number of risk factors that are associated with the acid reflux disease surgery. One must have a fair understanding of those factors if he or she is supposed to undergo that surgery. Although these risk factors do not generally have an affect on most of the patients.

Your physician will tell you in detail about the various problems that might affect you as a result of this surgery, so that you may decide weather or not you should go for it.
