How I, a TypeII Diabetic, Worked Exercise into a day at the Mall with the Grandchildren | ArticlesBase.com
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on July 31st, 2009
Am I crazy, or what? The answer is yes, I must be crazy! As a 62-year-old grandmother with Type II diabetes, I just spent the day at our local mall with three of my grandchildren; a 16-year-old grandson, and 10-year-old and 4-year-old granddaughters. You have to understand that our local mall is a destination, entertainment mall. In other words, it is a haven for children. Features include a 30 screen (I believe) cinema, a Rainforest Cafe with a fake alligator who growls and eats your change for charity, Glow-in-the-Dark miniature golf, large carousel, etc. Among the stores are a toy store, large bookstore with a children’s play area, a Disney store, etc. Yes, I am crazy! While taking a brief respite on a bench while the 4-year-old and her 16-year-old cousin rode in a miniature ice cream truck and the 10-year-old had an imaginary flight into space, I thought about our day and all the beneficial activity I had been able to work in.
I figured I should make this tiring, rather expensive day work somewhat to my advantage. At the movies, we sat at the top of the theatre. This sent me up and down the stairs three times (restroom trips) besides the initial walk up and the end of the movie down. Our mall is built as an oval and it is half a mile one time around. I figure I got at least a mile of walking in today. Probably a mile and a half. As a diabetic, that was important. There are so many easy ways to work exercise into the things we do without making exercise seem like work. Think about your daily routine and I am sure you will find many ways in which you can add some painless exercise. I am pretty sure I got enough exercise today to work off the delicious bite I had of my granddaughter’s wonderful Starbuck’s lemon bar!

Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on July 31st, 2009
Overactive bladder is the condition caused when bladder is functioning improperly. Overactive bladder is the result of rapid, uncontrolled contraction of the muscle in the wall of the urinary bladder. Overactive bladder leads to the unstoppable need to urinate and unintentional loss of urine. More than 5 million men in United States are suffering from the Overactive bladder. Scientists have now declared that men with overactive bladder are at higher risk of sexual dysfunction.
Sexual dysfunction is the inability in the men to get an last for the sufficient amount of time during the sexual activity. According to all the research conducted sexual dysfunction is caused by the less amount of blood supply to the male reproductive organ during the sexual stimulation. The less amount of blood supply to the male reproductive organ is caused by several physical and mental reasons.
Previously, sexual dysfunction was linked to diabetes, heart disorders, and obesity. But, the latest news is that sexual dysfunction may be caused by overactive bladder. According to the latest research sexual dysfunction is almost twice as common in men with symptoms of overactive bladder as it is in men without overactive bladder.
To know the relationship between the sexual dysfunction and overactive bladder, group of scientist conducted a survey in which 200 men suffering from overactive bladder were examined and put for the questionnaire regarding their sexual life. The survey concluded that 150 men out of 200 were suffering from the sexual dysfunction. It was also found that overactive bladder was only the reason for the sexual dysfunction because these men were not having any other health problems.
The research was conducted by the scientists to find out the reason for the prominence of sexual dysfunction in men suffering from overactive bladder. According to the research, the overactive bladder leads to the contraction of muscles in the male reproductive organ because of which the less amount of blood is supplied to male reproductive organ during the love making sessions. They also proved that due to frequent urination the arteries and the veins are always filled with the urine and this leads to the less amount of blood supply to the male reproductive organ. Overactive bladder also leads to the unstoppable need to urinate, which cause the loss of stamina during the sexual activity or you may even not be able to hold the stamina for the sufficient amount of time.
Oveactive bladder affects entire reproductive system in men and lead to the sexual problems in men. You Don't Have to Live With Piles Or Hemorrhoids!
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on July 30th, 2009
Let’s just be frank here. Nobody likes talking about excretory functions. And nobody is ever comfortable about talking about hemorrhoids or piles, which are painful and awkward to talk about. However, because they can be a mask for other, more serious conditions, it’s worth taking the time to understand what causes them, how to get over them, and how to prevent them in the future.
First of all, hemorrhoids (or piles) are swollen veins in your anus. These can be internal or external; it’s the external ones that are the most painful. They’re basically caused by friction rubbing over that part of your body. What causes the friction? For the most part, it’s usually a mixture of constipation and ‘pushing’ too hard when you sit on the toilet, and is sometimes aggravated when whatever it is that you’re trying to pass is a bit hard. They can also be triggered by anal sex if enough lubricant isn’t used.
Other factors that lead to hemorrhoids include hypertension and being overweight, both of which increase pressure in the veins and makes it likelier that they’ll swell and become irritated. Women who are pregnant also experience hormonal changes that make this condition a bit more likely to happen. Likewise, anything that causes blood to pool in the pelvic area.
Getting enough exercise isn’t quite the sovereign remedy for dealing with piles, but it is a major plus. Strengthening the muscles in the area gives the veins a bit less room to swell in, and will help you in other ways as well - like getting blood to circulate and helping your time on the toilet go a little faster. Likewise, changing your diet to include more fiber, and more fruits and vegetables can be a great aid in making your time in the toilet a bit less unpleasant.
If exercise and dietary changes don’t work, the next step is some sort of cream to reduce the swelling, or to reduce the amount of blood going to the hemorrhoid or piles so that they shrink on their own. Home remedies are primarily there to help deal with the itching, and to keep the area clean. Blot the affected area with medicated or moistened wipes after you do your business on the pot - baby wipes are especially good for this purpose.
If you do have hemorrhoids or piles, avoid taking drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin - these can cause hemorrhoids to bleed as a side effect. Use acetaminophen (like Tylenol) to relieve pain instead. Also, be sure to be fully hydrated, and focus on standing more than sitting as much as possible; one of the root causes of hemorrhoids is that people who are sitting are likelier to have blood pool in the lower torso.
One of the major things that makes piles worse is that they itch, and people rub at them - particularly with dry toilet paper - rather than rinse them off. This causes skin irritation, and like scratching a mosquito bite, can make the itching even worse. Instead, as above, use a moistened piece of cloth or toilet tissue to clean up after yourself, or rinse off in the shower or with a bidet if possible. If you do wash that area, avoid using soaps with perfumes or dyes.
You can also apply ice to the area to reduce swelling; use the same dampened cloth to clean up afterwords. For extreme cases, ice for ten minutes, followed by a warm compress for half an hour, can provide relief. (Most hemorrhoid products on the market are cortisone creams designed to reduce swelling.)
Hemorrhoids are almost unheard of in places where there’s no internal plumbing - there are physiologists who think that the act of defecating while sitting down increases the risk of straining and restricts blood flow while defecating. Similarly, for severe hemorrhoids that require bed rest, sleep on your stomach with a pillow under your hips, or on your side. Avoid lifting heavy objects.
Similarly, wearing loose clothing can ameliorate a lot of the symptoms of hemorrhoids or piles and help prevent them in the future. There are also other remedies to try, mostly derived from organic living and healthy living practices, and some aspects of homeopathy; these can be complete cures for hemorrhoids in less time than the practices described here.
Urinary Tract Infection - Treatment and Prevention | ArticlesBase.com
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on July 30th, 2009
The main reason behind UTI is bacteria, which when introduced into our urinary system can create different Urinary Tract Infections. For example, if bacteria enter into the bladder then it produces a common UTI called cystitis. If it enters into the kidney, then it can cause a UTI called Pyelonephritis. Both of these urinary tract infections can cause severe damage to the urinary system. But today, these diseases can easily be treated using advanced medical technologies and short antibiotics courses.
As we know, UTI can affect our bladder and kidney. The infection created by UTI in bladder is also called lower UTI and the infection created by UTI in kidney is called upper UTI. Different symptoms are shown by different types of UTI. The symptoms shown by lower UTI are itching during urination, pain in bladder, mild fever, urine with bad smell, blood in urine, needs to urinate during night etc., whereas the upper UTI shows the same along with some other symptoms like vomiting and nausea, pain in the kidney area an also in some parts of the stomach, high fever with cold, strong fatigue and feeling of pressure in the stomach area. All these symptoms must be closely investigated because they can lead to a serious disease.
The complications cause by UT infections lead to many serious diseases like kidney failure and infection in reproductive system and other urination diseases. The upper UT infection can destroy the structure of excretion system of urine by spreading deep into the kidney tissues. This in turn can lead to kidney failure. It can also stop the reproductive system from functioning. Moreover, if a pregnant woman is suffering from UT infection, the child born can be of very light weight, and possible very poor health.
In order to detect the presence of UTI, we can perform some tests. We can recognize UT infection by using urine specimens which can be analyzed to check for possible chances of infection. Also, one can perform a Urine Culture test to know about the presence of bacteria in the urinary system.
Now the question is how to treat these UTI infections. There are some standard treatments present for curing UT infections. Antibiotics like trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, fluoroquinolone can be used to treat urinary tract infections. If children are suffering from UTI, then they need to undergo a long treatment in which small doses of antibiotics are given.
Beside these standard treatments, some common alternative treatments are also present and can be used to treat UTI. Juices of cranberry and blueberry are quite effective and useful. These juices can be taken with the standard drugs and medicines also, as they contain important components that help in treating the UT infection.

html”>Here are some of the best products to relief Joint pain
Joints are the areas where two or more bones meet. Most joints are mobile, allowing the bones to move.
Joints consist of the following:
Cartilage - at the joint, the bones are covered with cartilage (a connective tissue), which is made up of cells and fibers and is wear-resistant. Cartilage helps reduce the friction of movement.
Synovial membrane - a tissue called the synovial membrane lines the joint and seals it into a joint capsule. The synovial membrane secretes synovial fluid (a clear, sticky fluid) around the joint to lubricate it.
Ligaments - strong ligaments (tough, elastic bands of connective tissue) surround the joint to give support and limit the joint’s movement.
Tendons - tendons (another type of tough connective tissue) on each side of a joint attach to muscles that control movement of the joint.
Bursas - fluid-filled sacs, called bursas, between bones, ligaments, or other adjacent structures help cushion the friction in a joint.
Synovial fluid - a clear, sticky fluid secreted by the synovial membrane.
Joint Pain Associated with Arthritis
- The word arthritis literally means joint inflammation, but it is often used to refer to a group of more than 100 rheumatic diseases that can cause joint pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints. These diseases may affect not only the joints but also other parts of the body, including important supporting structures such as muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Two of the most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Most forms of arthritis are associated with joint pain that can be divided into two general categories: acute and chronic. Acute pain is temporary, lasting a few seconds or longer. Chronic pain, such as that seen in people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, ranges from mild to severe and can last weeks, months, and years to a lifetime.
More than 40 million Americans are affected by some form of arthritis, and many have chronic joint pain that limits daily activity. Osteoarthritis is by far the most common form of arthritis, affecting over 20 million Americans, while rheumatoid arthritis, which affects about 2.1 million Americans, is the most disabling form of the disease.
What Causes Joint Pain?
The joint pain associated with arthritis may come from different sources. These may include inflammation of the synovial membrane (tissue that lines the joints), the tendons, or the ligaments; muscle strain; and fatigue. A combination of these factors contributes to the intensity of the joint pain.
Arthritic joint pain varies greatly from person to person. Factors that contribute to the joint pain include swelling within the joint, the amount of heat or redness present, or damage that has occurred within the joint.
In addition, activities affect joint pain differently so that some patients note joint pain after first getting out of bed in the morning, whereas others develop joint pain after prolonged use of the joint. Find detailed information on Joints and Joint Pain Products CARTILAGE
What is Cartilage?
Cartilage is the key to healthy joints. Cartilage is the spongy tissue that cushions the ends of the bones within the joints. Although cartilage is composed of 65 to 80 percent water, there are three other important components that make up the rest of cartilage tissue: collagen, proteoglycans, and chondrocytes.
Collagen: a fibrous protein. Collagen is also the building block of skin, tendon, bone, and other connective tissues.
Proteoglycans: a combination of proteins and sugars. Strands of proteoglycans and collagen weave together and form a mesh-like tissue. This allows cartilage to flex and absorb physical shock.
Chondrocytes: cells that are found all through the cartilage. They mainly help cartilage stay healthy and grow. Sometimes, however, they release substances called enzymes that destroy collagen and other proteins. Researchers are trying to learn more about chondrocytes.
