Safe sex

One of the most common terms today regarding disease prevention is safe sex. This is simply a way to try and prevent the possibility of one contracting a sexually transmitted disease of any kind. What safe sex means is that you try to prevent the exchange of body fluids between the sexual partners during and after intercourse. These fluids include blood, semen, and vaginal fluids. These fluids flow easily between the partners during intercourse and when there is an infection in one partner it very easily flows to the other party. Although safe sex may not completely guarantee you total protection from genital warts and other sexually transmitted diseases, it at least reduces the chances of you getting them.

Abstinence

The safest way if any that will guarantee you total protection from any sexually transmitted disease is total abstinence from sexual intercourse. We live in an era that has glorified sex so much that many people think it is impossible to abstain from sex. Since sex is not food you can actually do without it if only you set your mind and wait for the right time to have sex and probably with the right person. When abstinence is not considered an option, the second best option would be to reduce the number of sexual partners and deal with only one person but you need to be sure that you both are free from the Human papilloma virus and strive to maintain the condition for as long as.

Proper hygiene

The human papilloma virus that causes genital warts is spread through skin to skin contact and it strives very well in moist and wet areas of the body. That is the reason why women get the warts even deep inside their vaginal tract and the cervix because these areas of their bodies are moist most of the time. That means then that one needs to keep themselves ad dry as possible most of the time. When selecting undergarments it is better to acquire cotton based underwear as opposed to materials that do not absorb moisture. When one comes into contact with any body fluids especially those found in the genital area it is prudent to wash you hands as soon as possible to avoid possibly re-infecting yourself in other body areas.

Medical examination

It is significant to decide and take the first most important step in the whole process. Remove guess work from the whole issue and step forward to have a proper medical examination. Your doctor will be able to examine you and inform you if you have the HPV virus that causes genital warts even if you may not be manifesting any outward signs of the disease. After you get to know your status then you can decide what necessary precautions you are going to follow to protect yourself.
