It really is quit a staggering thought when you consider that it has been estimated that up to 10 percent of women around the world could be suffering to some degree from hypothyroidism. This disorder develops when the thyroid gland doesn’t produce sufficient hormones for the body to function in the correct manner. It causes a general slowing down of the body’s functions and systems and can be detrimental to both physical and mental processes.

The symptoms of an under active thyroid gland can, at times, be quite difficult to detect because they sometimes manifest themselves in quite a subtle manner. In addition to this the symptoms could in fact be linked to totally different ailments. One particular example of this is that many people are currently being treated for depression directly when the underlying cause of the problem is actually hypothyroidism.

The symptoms of this condition can cover quite a broad range and may include, but are not limited to…

1 ??” An intolerance to cold in comparison to the people around you

2 - Feeling weak, fatigued and/or lethargic

3 ??” Suffering from constipation

4 - Weight gain without a significant change in lifestyle or diet

5 - Dry and/or rough skin

6 - Dry or coarse hair and even hair loss

7 - Feeling irritable, unsettled or on edge

8 ??” Experiencing memory loss and/or confusion.

If in any doubt it would be wise to consult your doctor and perhaps have your thyroid checked for any irregularities or deficiencies. I hope this has been some help and I wish you the best of health.
