Plantar Fasciitis and 3 Tips to Help You Heal From Surgery
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 04th, 2011
If you just had Plantar Fasciitis Surgery, or are about to, there are some important tips that can make you heal faster and better.
Did your doctor give you any post-surgery self care advice I hope so. And, I bet nobody told you the following three bits of advice for healing.
First lets go over the basics of post foot surgery care:
Stay off the affected foot or feet as much as possible for the first several days. Keep the foot elevated to reduce swelling. Keep the incisions clean to avoid infection. Start being on your feet a little at a time, and build up as your feet heal.
You will also be advised to take anti-inflammatory and pain killing drugs. This is not a bad idea for the first several days and even up to two weeks. Pain is no fun.
Remember, surgery causes injury to the plantar fascia of your foot. The Plantar Fascia is a complex sheet of connective tissue that connects to everything on the bottom of your foot. The body isn’t going to be happy that someone went in there with a sharp object and went cutting on it.
And, the body is a healing machine. If you hurt yourself, your body will do everything in it’s power to heal. The problem is, the way the body heals it doesn’t get us back to 100%, and there are other factors that complicate the healing process, both slowing it down and reducing the effectiveness of how we heal.
3 Tips To Heal Faster and Better
Tip #1. Increase the amount of protein that you eat.
Your connective tissue, and the scar tissue that lays down after Plantar Fasciitis surgery, is made up of protein fibers. If you want to heal faster, eat more protein. We need protein for fuel, to replace what breaks down in normal daily metabolism, and then more to build muscle and/or heal from damage.
Most Americans eat too many calories, but not enough protein. If you want to heal faster, eat more protein.
Tip #2. Keep your foot moving.
Movement is life. When we have surgery we are told to keep the body part immobilized. Probably you were told to keep your foot in the protective boot and not to move it.
It’s true, too much movement can cause tearing of the tissue that was cut on as it is trying to heal.
But there is a whole host of problems that come with immobilizing your foot after surgery.
If you want to heal faster and better, keep your foot moving just a -little- bit. Constantly. As much as you can, wiggle your toes, flex and extend your foot -just- a little bit. All day long.
This keeps things mobile, keeps circulation going, and give the nervous system a constant update on how things are doing.
Keep your foot moving just a little bit. All day long.
Tip #3. As soon as the incisions heal, start Ice Dipping.
Inflammation is your biggest foe. You already had an inflammation process in place, now you have a worse one due to the damage surgery caused.
Elevating your foot is not enough. You want to start using cold as soon as possible. You can use ice packs through a sock immediately. As soon as the incisions heal, you can start using an Ice Dip.
Dip your foot(feet) into a plastic tub full of ice water at least ten times per day, for 10 seconds a dip. You are after the cumulative effect of repetitive ice dips.
Ice Dipping is the most effective way to kick out the inflammation process. You’ll just have to trust me on that one.
Follow these three tips after getting Plantar Fasciitis surgery, and you will be amazed how much faster you start to feel better.
The 1 and Only Reason to Wear a Tennis Elbow Brace
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 04th, 2011
People suffering from Tennis Elbow are commonly advised and prescribed to get and wear a Tennis Elbow splint or brace.
There is a big market for braces and many types and brands to choose from. However, there is only one good reason to wear a brace.
Why do doctors advise their patients to wear an elbow brace
Depending on whether the brace is used to immobilize the elbow or to support it while the arm is being actively use the theory is that a brace will limit irritation and further damage to the tendon structure attaching to the Lateral Epicondilytis.
If one chooses to think about lateral elbow tendonitis like this, then wearing a brace or sling or splint should keep things from getting worse and make things better. Unfortunately, this rarely turns out to be the case.
Many people ongoingly wear elbow support for months, and even years. This doesn’t sound to me like an effective method to get rid of Tennis Elbow. It sounds instead like a method to prolong the problem.
Stopping some or all activity of the arm does not help tendonitis. It certainly is not a cure or a fix for it. And yet, elbow braces are commonly prescribed by doctors and suggested by other health care practitioners.
Why don’t elbow braces help Tennis Elbow
Braces are designed to either immobilize the elbow, or to give it support while a person uses their arm for a variety of activities.
The problem with this is that there are many factors and variables that go into the creation of and the progression of tendonitis at the elbow. It is not just movement, or just too much movement.
Splints and braces target only a single factor. And it’s not even the most important factor. So wearing one may feel like it is helping, it may even help your body reduce the amount of pain you feel for a while, but it is in fact just prolonging your suffering and may not even be slowing the progression of the Pain Causing Dynamic, even though it might feel like it is.
The 1 and only reason to wear an elbow brace.
In my professional opinion, the only reason to wear an elbow splint is, for a very short term of no more than a week, to help reduce the negative factor of use and overuse of the arm structure while you are using the RIGHT tools to reverse the Tennis Elbow dynamic.
Meaning that the brace is selectively used to reduce on negative factor while you use other tools to reduce other negative factors and help your body heal itself.
If you find yourself wearing a brace for more than two weeks, realize that you are going down the wrong treatment path. Even severe Tennis Elbow should be feeling significantly better after a week when helped the RIGHT way.
Relying on a splint is a sure sign you are just prolonging your suffering. Splints can help to a degree, but they are not a cure, and they will not reverse the dynamic that is causing your pain.
How to Cure Hemorrhoids and Get Rid of That Annoying Problem
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 04th, 2011
You may not realize this, but millions of individuals throughout the world are suffering from hemorrhoids. Despite it all, most of those individuals do not even know how to go about curing this problem. In fact, they feel that they are so embarrassing, they never speak with anyone about them. Unless the individual understands the main cause of those hemorrhoids, then the cure they do know may only be temporary. Within this article, we are going to discuss some basic information on how to cure your piles.
When hemorrhoids first start to show up, many of those individuals go right out to the drug store and purchase treatments. Yes, this may sooth the pain and it may even reduce the size of them, but if they do not modify their lifestyle, then they may not cure the inflammation.
For those of you that do not know, hemorrhoids are those vessels that get enlarged in the rectal area. When those vessels rupture, this is when you get bleeding veins. They are not comfortable at all and they can cause itching and burning sensations.
When you leave hemorrhoids without treatment, they could heal by themselves, but if you’re not careful, they could end up worsening over time. In order to help out with this problem, there are some methods you can turn to. First, you should eat a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. Don’t forget to add fiber to your diet.
When you are having problems with hemorrhoids, you should sit in a bath full of warm water about four times each day. You could also get some witch hazel and apply the witch hazel to the hemorrhoid by using a cotton ball. As you see, there are so many different ways you can cure your piles. You should stay away from those hot drinks simply because they are known for making the bowel sluggish. In the end, as long as you take the proper cautions, you will not only be able to cure your problem, but you will be able to prevent them as well.
Hemorrhoids Removal - An Explanation
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 03rd, 2011
Some hemorrhoids are too severe to be cured with home remedies or other treatments. For these hemorrhoids, hemorrhoids removal is the only effective way to cure them. A common method of removing hemorrhoids is not necessarily surgical, however. A specialist must perform it, but it is not a surgical method. This method is called rubber band ligation, and it is performed by wrapping a tight rubber band around the polyp. The hemorrhoid cells die within a few days and are flushed out of the anus naturally through bowel movements.
“Hemorrhoidolysis” is another method of hemorrhoids removal. This method involves destroying the cells through electric current. Again, since it is not a surgical process, it is safer than simple dissection of the hemorrhoids from the rectum. However, there are still risks involved in this method, and a specialist must perform it. This method is also much more expensive than rubber band ligation is, and so you should check to see if your insurance method will cover it. If it does, then it may be worth pursuing. It can be much more effective than rubber band ligation.
The most common method of hemorrhoids removal, however, is through powerful lasers. Similar to rubber band ligation in effectiveness and process, it kills the hemorrhoid and allows the bowel to remove the hemorrhoids through natural bowel movements. When the laser’s strength is concentrated on the cyst, the cyst cells die and wither away. Of all the methods of the removal of hemorrhoids, however, this one is the riskiest, since it is dealing with lasers and concentrations of rays. Its effectiveness is balanced by its risk. Weigh the costs and benefits of utilizing this method before you splurge on this method.
You should always ask your doctor’s opinion before going through a process of hemorrhoids removal. You don’t want to make a decision about your health that is too rash and not very well thought out. If your hemorrhoids can be treated with home remedies rather than through risky and costly surgical procedures, then they should be treated that way. Only as a last resort should hemorrhoids be treated in a way that puts your safety at risk, and only after you have done a careful cost-benefit analysis about the risks involved in doing a procedure vs. not doing so. Just as in any health issue, don’t make decisions any more quickly than is absolutely necessary.

Oh, My Aching Neck
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 03rd, 2011
Did you ever wake up in the morning and feel a kink or stiffness in your neck? You probably thought you slept with your neck in a twisted position. If it’s bad enough, it can really hurt and the pain might even radiate to your shoulders. That kind of stiff neck also limits your range of motion and your ability to turn your head without feeling the pain. One of the best ways that I have found to avoid waking up like that is to sleep with an ergonomic pillow, one that supports your neck properly. No more sleeping with 2 or more pillows. Ever since I got one, I haven’t woken up with that kind of crooked neck pain.
The ideal way to deal with a stiff neck is to go for a great deep tissue message if you can. But there are plenty of effective self treatments and preventions if you have a stiff or painful neck. You can use a long microwaveable heating pad that wraps around your neck. Then after that, you can gently message the affected area of your neck (or get someone else to) which will relieve some of the tension.
Sometimes the way we move can cause neck problems. Neck problems and injuries commonly occur during sports or recreational activities, work related tasks, using your shoulder to prop up the telephone, or spending hours at a time doing desk work with your head locked in a forward position.
Oh, the things we do to ourselves to cause our own pain! I’m not referring to neck injuries from falling or worse, or from whiplash from being in a car accident. Those are certainly more severe and can take many months to heal. Most of the time a stiff neck is caused by strain, over use, and not stretching the neck muscles properly or even having bad posture.
You would think that it’s mostly adults who get stiff necks. Students who load up their back packs with heavy books are begging for neck strain as well as ore shoulders. Women who carry pocketbooks loaded with too much stuff that weigh alot can also be prone to the whole torso ending up out of alignment. This kind of strain most certainly contributes to strain on the shoulders, neck, muscle soreness, and even headaches.
Here’s what to do. After you switch to a smaller pocketbook and lighten the load in your back pack, Do isotonic exercises that strengthen your neck muscles and prevent injury. An easy one is to take your right hand and hold it against your right temple, then press or push your head against the palm of your hand. Then switch to the other side and do the same thing. Do repetitions of moving your head from side to side. Try to touch your ear to your shoulder if you can. Then move your head forward and backward. Gently try to touch your chin to your chest when you move your neck forward. This will strengthen your neck muscles. A few neck rolls are a good way to finish up this exercise and will help keep your neck muscles flexible. There really are many effective home treatments that help relive stiff neck pain and problems.
The “pain management classroom” forum I’ve created is devoted to methods of treating and preventing headaches, neck pain, and back spasms. We demand so much from our bodies every day, so sometimes we need to undo to the residual effect of that demand.
The Top 6 Hemorrhoids Surgery Methods
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 02nd, 2011
Let me first state that hemorrhoids are actually piles if you do not know. There are various types of hemorrhoids surgical procedures in the market to remove hemorrhoids or reduce the size of hemorrhoids.
The first option is a hemorrhoidectomy. This is used for more extensive or more severe internal or external hemorrhoids that require removal of the hemorrhoids by surgery. This is ultimately the greatest method for permanent removal of piles. Generally speaking, hemorrhoidectomy is the treatment for severe third-degree and fourth-degree hemorrhoids. The surgical procedure is performed using either a laser or by means of a scalpel.
The second option is rubber band ligation. In rubber band ligation, a rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. The use of this method is to cut off the circulation of blood to the affected tissues. As a result, the hemorrhoid will dry away after a few days or so.
The third option is to utilize laser or electro-coagulation techniques. Both of these techniques use special devices to burn away the hemorrhoidal tissue.
The fourth option is sclerotherapy which is one of the oldest forms of treatment for piles. Sclerotherapy involves the direction injection of some form of chemical solution into the hemorrhoid or the area around it. The chemical solution will cause a local reaction with the blood flow inside the hemorrhoid and this eventually makes the hemorrhoid shrink.
The fifth option is to burn the hemorrhoidal tissue away using an infrared device and this is known as infrared coagulation.
The sixth option is actually called PPH. PPH actually stands for Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids. The procedure reduces the prolapse of hemorrhoidal tissue by excising a band of the prolapsed anal mucosa membrane with the use of a circular stapling device. The prolapse tissue is pulled into a device that allows the excess tissue to be removed while the remaining hemorrhoidal tissue is stapled.
Sore Feet and Plantar Arch Correction - Putting Your Best Foot Forward
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 02nd, 2011
It never fails to amaze me just how many people rely on orthotics, or ‘air’ shoes, to reduce back pain, correct posture and lift collapsed plantar arches in their feet. Not surprising, seeing as this is what most chiropractors and other physical therapists recommend. The trouble with doing this is that it merely covering up a rather significant postural deficiency, and not actually rectifying it in any way. Remember that our feet are often the only contact point we have with the floor and absorb much of our weight, plus the effects of gravity, so their positioning affects everything above it to some degree.
Nothing that we can ‘do’ to the body is ever going to be as effective as what we can do ‘with’ the body, and by this I mean that realigning the skeleton and rebalancing tight or weak muscles will always be effective than manipulating it into certain positions or putting it under this lamp or that scanner.
The type of footwear we all wear, particularly for training in, doesn’t help either. We’re all bouncing about on inflated soles which, whilst giving us a spring in out step and feeling comfy, are actually not that great for our feet at all because once again they allow our feet to become ‘lazy’ and weak.
Take a look at your own feet. Do you have callouses on the insides of your big toe? If so it’s very likely that your feet pronate (collapse in) which probably means your butt’s not working like it should. Do you have a good curve under your arches, or are your feet as flat as pancakes? If the latter is true, maybe it’s time to put your orthotics to one side and actually start correcting your feet. We can do this just as we would correct any other collection of muscles; by training them.
A really easy and simple way of strengthening weak feet and building the plantar arch back up is to pop a towel onto the floor with a small weight at the end of it, and gradually scrunch the towel towards you using your toes. This works the muscles on the underside of your feet and can be done under your desk at work, or in front of the telly at home. Doing this every day will really help to restrengthen your feet, and you may be surprised how much it affects little niggles further up your body. It’s called the kinetic chain for a reason - everything is connected!
Another really easy way to retrain your feet to postural correctness is by training barefoot as much as possible. This is, after all, how the body was designed to function; not wrapped up in air-cushioned glory. If your gym is funny about people wandering about bare-foot, consider buying some flat soled shoes or foot gloves, which are pretty much like socks but with a ‘finger’ for each toe, if you see what I mean! These feel odd to begin with, but give you a much more natural contact with the floor.
If in doubt, get checked out!
The Keys to Remedying Constipation and Hemorrhoids
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 02nd, 2011
Sometimes, with how the ailments feel and look, it seems that constipation and hemorrhoids are complex intestinal problems that need costly medical solutions. But most of the time, especially when things are still tolerable, the remedies for the ailments are as simple as diet adjustments and some toilet re-training.
Hemorrhoidal symptoms are believed to commonly occur when there is too much straining in defecation due to constipation. If we’re able to control this the disease is often avoidable, or quickly remedied if already existent. Thus, the first line of defense or cure is often dietary in nature where constipation and hemorrhoids are concerned.
Increased intake of fibrous foods and healthy and natural drinks are often recommended as both preventive and curative remedies. It is said that most Americans include only about 8 to 15 grams of fiber each day to their diets while the recommended is 25 grams daily. With this fact alone we would see how constipation and hemorrhoids develop in people. It would be so easy to get rid of the problem if only we would increase fruits and vegetables in our diets and get more healthy liquids into our system.
In many hemorrhoidal treatments, there is evident emphasis on straining and constipation alleviation. The more we can lessen or eliminate straining due to constipation the more we can deal with the problem effectively. If we successfully deal with constipation we have solved the problem by a considerable percentage and total healing is not far from sight. In this regard a radical shift of diet to loosen stool is the key to solving constipation and hemorrhoids.
Another remedy for constipation and hemorrhoids is to watch our wrong toilet habits. Simply put, don’t take too long in using the toilet. Sitting on the toilet rim with our thighs propped up against it for long periods is the culprit in constipation and hemorrhoids problems. Some veins are affected when the pressure against the thigh muscles produce a tourniquet effect on them, restricting the free flow of blood. This causes inflammation in the anal area and the start of the trouble.
We may apply some cold cream or ointment once in a while. We may also try some suppository solutions for loosening the stool. Soaking in warm water in tubs can also help relieve the pain temporarily. So do sitz treatments.
But these cannot cure our constipation and hemorrhoids woes. What often does is a high fibrous diet and correct toilet habits. Stick to them and the problem is often remedied.
Easy and Discrete Home Hemorrhoids Treatments

If we’re looking for easy to prepare quick relief medication for hemorrhoids here are simple suggestions we can easily make ourselves. All we need is follow these instructions on how to prepare natural hemorrhoids treatments.
Hemorrhoids prolapse is a big discomfort to have. But we can always remedy it with a simple Horse Chestnut remedy. It’s a favorite among some Europeans. When used for treatment it improves blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and strengthens veins. However, we should avoid this hemorrhoids treatment if we have liver or kidney problems. It is also detrimental for breast feeding or pregnant mothers
When the hemorrhoid gets too itchy and painful, we need a special washing solution to also serve as hemorrhoids treatment. Consider mixing equal amounts of Lobelia extract, zinc sulfate, and an extract called Baptisia. Mix these well with water. Then use the mixture to wash and cleanse hemorrhoids 2 times a day. We can also mix Vaseline and sulfur together and gently applied on the hemorrhoid with cotton sticks. Do this several times a day.
During night time, for a comfortable sleep, try applying witch hazel oil on the affected part using clean dry cotton. Or make a wad of the cotton and put the hazel oil on it. Then use it to cover the hemorrhoids with before sleeping. This hemorrhoids treatment brings relief during our sleep. In case of a bleeding hemorrhoid we can take a glass of water mixed with apple cider vinegar each meal 3 times daily. Try also applying topically a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar.
If we are familiar with thermotherapy, we may use the procedure as a hemorrhoids treatment. Do it several times a week. It can reduce the size of hemorrhoids and also control bleeding. One way of doing this is sitting on a tub of warm water for hours until relief is had. This simple treatment can relax the patient suffering from pain and swelling. Or, we may also try mixing a teaspoon of Alum in powder form with water in a glass and then apply topically on the affected area.
To control bleeding hemorrhoids we may try drinking a glass of water with about a small measure of cayenne pepper. Echinacea extracts on cotton are also effective for itching and pain caused by hemorrhoids, and also lard and Calomel heated on a spoon and applied topically.
A simple hemorrhoids treatment may mean a world of relief from the discomfort and pain of hemorrhoids. We should know these easy home remedies for the ailment.
